20x30inch, Oil I borrowed this treasured bible because of the worn pages, its age, illustrations and the strong faith of the owner.. I did a series of drawings and paintings. I wanted to show how precious it is.
The cast shadow from the window frame forms a cross.
Title credit goes to jmonzani who was generous to allow me to apply it to this work. Check his deviation out its powerful, same title of course,
At first glance, I had not recognized a cloth of bobbin lace and the pages of a Bible for a painting, rather kept for a photo. I understand a huge work behind this painting.
What is your choice painting exact as you do it, when do you decide which details are not fine and what else can be painted, a general question for many painter?
I love detail so it is very difficult to know when to stop, I use my instinct to say enough. If an element is distracting from the main subject I do omit or subdue it.
the writing is only an impression and when I have a good look at it the vertical spacing is incorrect. I did this painting a long time ago and it sold the first time I exhibited it and never noticed that error. Good observation.
I so love the reasons you chose to paint this book and am glad to say they shine through in your painting. I think the power of what you wanted to paint, and its coming through, is what drew me to the thumbnail of this piece.
